Grab every opportunity to undertake training

If like me, you’ve ever sat through a course with a lousy tutor and wondered quite what you were doing there, you might think my suggestion that you should grab every training opportunity is a bit over the top. You might be right, but if you add the word ‘relevant’ into the statement, you’ll have a better idea of what I mean.

So, what is relevant training? Well, it would be easy to assume relevant means relevant to property rental. And with the number of recent and imminent changes the sector is facing, there’s a lot to learn and a lot to be aware of. So, yes, grab training about Client Money Protection, Right to Rent Checks, Health and Safety and Landlord Licensing, but don’t ignore other opportunities.

Think a course on finance is irrelevant because you have your own tame accountant? A course could help you understand your reports and spot the numbers that don’t make sense. A course on sales skills could help you with your landlords, a course on productivity could benefit every aspect of what you do.

Our industry is facing a massive shake-up and the more skills you have, the easier it will be to survive and indeed thrive. It’s when you think you know everything that you’re most at risk.
